Draka Comteq strengthens its position in the fibre optic connectivity market
with a new generation compact optical distribution drawer. This first product in
the new connectivity range is designed around BendBrightXS bendinsensitive
optical fibre to facilitate network implementation, reduce footprint, component,
storage and handling costs.
Berlin, 17 September 2007 - As part of a new strategy to serve the fibre optic
connectivity marketplace, Draka Comteq, a global leader in optical fibre
technology, cabling, connectivity solutions and network engineering services,
today announced a new, compact optical distribution drawer, the first of a new
range of connectivity products that will facilitate large scale fibre optic
network implementation.
Designed around Draka Comteq's unique bend-insensitive optical fibre,
BendBrightXS, the new, light grey Optical Distribution Drawer combines space
savings with high patching density to optimize accessibility to all components.
BendBrightXS has the optical qualities of glass together with the strength and
flexibility of copper, setting a new world standard in the use, installation and
maintenance of fibre networks particularly for Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) and
indoor applications.
With Draka Comteq's Optical Distribution Drawer, network operators can now
reduce their footprint costs, of critical importance in dense FTTH and indoor
networks. Fibres that can be bent at low radii offer an advantageous impact as
miniaturisation reduces component and other costs such as storage, transport and
handling.
Unique combination of features
The Optical Distribution Drawer provides a unique combination of features using
small size, single circuit splice cassettes together with bend insensitive OSP
cable, pigtails and patchcords.
This results in a connectivity solution offering cable and fibre bend protection,
improved safety operation together with full single circuit (SC) fibre
management and no disturbance of live fibres.
The compact unit (Dimensions 445W x 110H x 280D mm) provides 96 SC patch
positions and a splice capacity of up to 192 fibres, and comes supplied with
pigtails and SC adapters .Sliding construction and swing-out type removable
patch panel allow easy access to splice trays and both sides of the patch panel.
BendBrightXS fibre
Announced by Draka Comteq earlier this year, BendBrightXS has a very low
macrobending loss, according to the most demanding class of G.657B. This means
the fibre can be bent down to the small radius of 15 mm, while still offering a
signal without any compromise on attenuation. Furthermore BendBrightXS will
stand up against 'kinks' or micro bending. This makes a BendBrightXS network
very friendly to fibre engineering errors such as overclamping the fibre, tie
wrapping bundles of patch-cords.
In the optical cladding process a special field-confining trench is inserted in
the fibre. This trench keeps the light in the centre of the fibre in the case
that it is mistreated by bends or kinks.
